TG EIC bags top awards in 7th SPAM Nat’l Confab

John Michael O. Samuel, Editor-in-Chief of the Gateway Group of Publications, won first place in Editorial Writing at the 7th Annual National Convention of the School Press Advisers’ Movement (SPAM) September 13, 2013 at JJ’s Seafood Village, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

Samuel also won second place for Opinion Story writer of the year during the event. Samuel’s Editorial piece, which bested over 30 other contestants, revolved around the relation between environmental security and the government pork barrel, a theme coined by SPAM Resource Speaker Mr. Bingo Dejaresco, Editor-in-Chief of the local Bohol Chronicle.

The SPAM National Convention was graced by personalities in the field of Mass Media such as GMA – 7 Broadcaster Mike C. Enriquez, and Horacio “Howie” Severino, and was attended by 38 schools that came from most parts of the Philippines.

Also in the said event, The Gateway served as organizers for Pautakang Pampahayagan 2013, the 4th SPAM National Journalism Quiz Bee.


Eros Atalia gives lecture in TG’s 6th Literary and Arts Contest

Mr. EROS Atalia, award-winning and best-selling Filipino author, served as a lecturer-judge for SDCA’s  6th Annual Literary and Arts Contest: Literato 2013, held Oct. 18 at the AVR.

Atalia gave a lecture in poetry writing and short story writing in the said contest.  At the same time, he judged the entries submitted by the contestants.This is the first time in the six-year history of the contest that a best-selling author became a lecturer-judge.
The theme of the said event was, “Mga pagdiriwang na sati’y tumatak, sa mga pulang marka sila’y pumatak,” which revolves around the holidays that we celebrate here in the Philippines namely: New Year, People Power Anniversary, Holy Week, Independence Day,  Eid-al Fitr, National Heroes’ Day,  All Saint’s Day, and Christmas. Each holiday was assigned to a category in the contest. Selected entries of the contest were published in the sixth volume of SDCA’s literary folio of the same name.
