CSA lends a hand to Yolanda Survivors

Typhoon Yolanda caused terrible damage when it hit the Philippines last Nov. 8 and devastated the Eastern Visayas and caused a storm surge which destroyed buildings and took away a huge number of lives.

There is an extensive loss of power and assistance throughout the towns and municipalities of the Central Visayas. With this, the Center of Social Action (CSA) launched Operation Yolanda that aimed to help send aids to the survivors of Typhoon Yolanda by donating reliefs and participating in various government and non-government relief operations, Nov. 12-22.

CCSC officers went to the Philippine National Red Cross – National Headquarters, Nov. 12, to donate canned goods, clothes, and actively volunteered for the repacking of goods and reliefs. SDCA’s CSA members along with the student leaders delivered the donations from the members of the academic community at ABS-CBN’s Sagip Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. Members from the accredited organizations actively volunteered with ABS -CBN’s campaign, “Tulong Na, Tabang Na, Tayo Na”, Nov. 13.

Volunteers from different accredited student organizations helped with the repacking of donations last Nov. 15 at the DSWD National Relief Operations Center. CCSC members with the presidents of different organizations volunteered at the MBC Broadcasting Center, Nov. 21-22. A total of 21 sacks (210 bags) of used clothes were donated. The said relief operations and donated goods will help the survivors in the Eastern Visayas to fulfill their necessities and their lost source of income due to the rage brought by the super typhoon Yolanda. This small gesture is a big help to gradually regain their normal life.

Cebu, Bohol earthquake relief

The historical grounds of Bohol and Cebu were struck by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on Oct.15, destroying century-old churches and damaging the famous Chocolate Hills which were among the affected landmarks in this tragic incident.


This earthquake didn’t only destroyed landscapes and sceneries but also killing 222 people, 976 injured civilians and numerous properties were damaged. It was the most powerful earthquake dated in last 23 years.
With this tragedy, the CSA headed the donation of relief goods where Dominicans donated goods such as canned food, clothes and other goods for the victims of the earthquake. While, the CCSC officers turned over the donations to ABS- CBN’s Sagip Kapamilya, “Kapit Bisig Visayas” relief  operations last Oct. 23.

CCSC volunteered in the repacking of relief goods joined by Mr. Jonathan V. Sta. Ana, the Director, DSAS.
After the earthquake, Bohol is now gradually starting over again and building the infrastructures that were mostly affected by the quake.

The tourism in Bohol was also regained and the government  headed the evacuation of the people in to some temporary shelters as they wait for the repair of their houses. This rehabilitation program is the start of building a new and better life after the tragic earthquake of the people in the said ruined community.
