SDCA Employees inTENsify Allstar Showdown

As a closing activity for this year’s Founding Anniversary, SDCA All-star Showdown was held Nov. 28 at the SDCA grounds. All Domican faculty, staff and administrators were grouped into four teams, each representing the four major elements on Earth.

Team Water won the title Intense Costume, while Team Earth won Intense Concept, Team Fire for Intense Performance and Team Air won Intense Production Award. Prof. Noel Sergio, Dean of School of Business and Computer Studies (SBCS) and was awarded as Intense Male Performer. The Intense Female Performer award was given Ms. Karen Dizon of Team Water. The Dean of School of Arts, Sciences and Education (SASE) and team Earth member, Dr. Teresita Pedrajas won the Ultimate Performer Award.

Dominicans plant +3K mangroves

SDCA students, faculty and staff added more than 3,000 mangrove propagules in the shores of Brgy. Sineguelasan, City of Bacoor, Nov. 23.

For the restoration and preservation of the environment of the City of Bacoor, SDCA took the chance to lead the mangrove planting activity in cooperation with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources.

The said activity was held as part of the institutions 10th Founding Anniversary with Dr. Zenaida Sadiwa, Center for Social Action Officer, as the over-all chair. Mangrove was the chosen plant because of its properties that may help to lessen the harmful effects of calamities especially floods caused by tsunamis and storm surges. It may also serve as protection and shelter for marine life and aquatic resources.

Gateway brings home  6 awards from CHEPC ‘13

The Gateway Group of Publications joined the 6th Cavitewide Higher Education Press Conference, Nov. 18-19, held at the San Sebastian College Recoletos de Cavite - Cañacao Campus.

Twelve publication members represented the Gateway delegation, with 6 winning awards in the competitions. Feature Editor Filbert Mendoza won first place for Development Communication (DevCom) Writing in Filipino while for DevCom in English, Mary Adrian Bautista won second place.

Opinion Editor John Karlo Sagenes won second place for Photojournalism in English, while Sports Editor Julie Anne Zamuco won third place in Sportswriting in Filipino. Editor-in-Chief John Michael Samuel won third place in Copyreading in English. Ten schools participated in the event, facilitated by eight resource speakers who gave lectures.

SIHTM students win medals in COHREP ‘13

Students from the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management won awards at the annual Council of Hotel and Restaurant Educators of the Philippines (COHREP) skills contest titled ‘Flairs and Flavours of Asia – Season 8’¸ held at the Lyceum of the Philippines University – Batangas, Sep. 17.

SIHTM students won eight medals from different contestswhich focused on Hospitality Skills and Culinary Arts. Ruvina Charisse B. Papa, Ivan Anjelo V. Panzo, and Medardo D. Magdaong Jr. won gold medals for the On-The-Spot Cooking Contest ‘Market Basket’. Jefferson P. Dote and Ammable R. Rafol won bronze medals for the ‘Truly Asian Table Skirting’ category. Culinary Arts student Leonard Paul B. Medina, along with BSHM students Jessireh A. Herbilla and Janine R. Santiago won bronze medals for the on-the-spot ‘Wedding Cake Decorating’ contest.
