December 11, 2013 - Filipino amateur boxing champion Josie Gabuco captured the Philippines fourth overall medal in the Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) after she successfully defeated her Indonesian opponent in the finals of the Junior Flyweight in Myamar.

Gabuco, who was also the 2011 SEAG pin-weight champion, outpointed Indonesia’s Beatrix Suguro in the women’s 48 kg (junior flyweight) division. Josie Gabuco scored with 40-36 and 40-36 favor for her, while the other official scored with a tie at 38-38. The first place finish of Josie Gabuco is the fourth gold medal haul of the Philippine team in the 27th SEA Games.

Both combatants gave what they’ve been training for, showing the results of their sacrifice of blood, sweat, and tears with every punishing blow they’ve kept from their well-stocked arsenal, only ending it with the well-timed ring from the bell after every round. Josie Gabuco emerged victorious with a unanimous decision favoring her side.

The victory was rejoiced and the proud Filipina champion said she gave it all for the name of her country, Philippines and for her family. With this 4th gold medal she earned from the SEAG, along with every punch she had willfully thrown against every adversary she faced in the ring, Josie Gabuco announced her joy for her success in the sport of boxing.
